Milton, the New Zealand owner of West Coast Explorer, or Nick will be your tour leader. You'll be entertained by their elaborate dive briefings and detailed knowledge of the Similan Islands' dive sites. Milton is also an expert underwater photographer and videographer, in case you need any tips. You'll also have the opportunity to bend his ear should anything go amiss on the cruise!

West Coast Explorer is a popular liveaboard boat with younger divers from a mixed range of nationalities. The best feature of these Thailand diving cruises is the warm atmosphere generated by the friendly and professional staff, and this is clearly effective in ensuring that guests have a great time.

The dive deck is practical and well organised with non-slip rubber flooring, CCTV for extra safety, showers, rinse tanks and strong night lights. There is a saloon on the upper deck of the liveaboard where you can watch a movie, listen to music on the stereo, or set up your camera and recharge batteries. There's also a variety of fish ID books if you need to identify that unusual fish that you just spotted. Milton will happily lend an educated helping hand should you need additional help.

Cabins, Berths, Showers, Bathrooms...
There are 6 twin bunk cabins on the main deck, and 2 twin bunk cabins on the lower deck.

Important note: It is possible to reserve individual cabins on each Thailand dive cruise on a 'first-come-first-served' basis, all at the same price. We therefore recommend you request the front 2 cabins on the main deck first. If these are not available, then you should request the other cabins on the main deck.

All the cabins have:
  • Air conditioning
  • Bedding and blankets
  • Towels
Additionally, the 2 cabins on the main deck at the bow of the boat are the largest and quietest, have large windows at the front and side giving good natural lighting, reading lights, power points and drawers.

Customer reviews:

"Good organisation of the dives as the sites were sometimes rather busy. Very friendly staff on the boat (helping us with the cylinders and other equipment). There was a bit of trouble of not having enough water on the boat, but I guess that comes down to each individual not wasting it too much which unfotunately was the case. The food was of a good standard for hungry divers and there was always enough of it. The divemasters were good fun though we had some troubles in getting our advanced licences later. That has now been sorted so would recommend this vessel to my friends. Definitely." - , Czech Republic10 August 2010 ...

"The liveaboard boat has very good facilities. The staff are very knowledgable and experienced. They are great guys and really had fun diving with them. I always felt totally safe and as a novice diver that is very important. Excellent overall!" - , Malta, 26 December 2008 ...

"The divemaster/instructor we had, Nueng, was perfect. She introduced herself to us as soon as we got on the boat, she told us what to expect, she asked questions about our experience, she listened well and geared her review course lesson to us based on our needs. The review course was well done, good pace. Her teaching skills were superior! The remaining part of our dives with her were fantastic. She pointed out all kinds of fish, sharks, rock, coral - everything to make sure we saw a lot, were comfortable and doing ok the entire time - great experience. After the dives, she was helpful in answering questions - excellent!" - , USA, 7 February 2008 ...

"The onboard staff were extremely helpful, especially when assisting with diving equipments and gas tanks etc. My dive instructor Kazu was also very familiar with the sites and was able to point out interesting features and sea animals during the dive. He was always eager to make the dives more interesting and more fulfilling." - , Singapore, 28 December 2007 ...

"Very good organization, highly motivated crew, all over a recommendable trip!" - , Switzerland, 8 December 2006 ...
